Last October 5, X, Beej and I got to try out the first installment of Clambake, Maribago Bluewater’s themed dinner for all Tuesdays of the fourth quarter of 2010. For each day in a week, Maribago Bluewater has prepared unique and exciting themes for that one-of-a-kind dinner experience.

Clambake is all about SEAFOOD and if I got you wondering, Clambake is actually an ancient style of cooking in which seafoods are baked on heated stones covered with seaweeds. Amazing eh?

This is the modern-day Clambake:

Seafood-all-you-can!

Clambake Tuesdays are set at the resort beachfront, with Tahitian and Fireball dancers on the background, ushering in a very relaxing tropical mood.

Now, let’s take a look at the food…

Here’s what’s on the appetizer table:

Fresh fruits such as pineapple, papaya and watermelon, among others

Smoked Salmon Dip with Bagel Chips; Shrimp Chorizo Skewers

Pomelo Salad; Potato Lobster Salad

Broccoli Noodle Salad; Chicken Liver Crostini

Sweet Onion Dip with Melba Toast

I’m sure the appetizers got your eyes rolling. Based on experience, a teeny-weeny serving of each is enough just so you could taste each one. Don’t go hoarding on the appetizers or else you won’t get to enjoy the main dishes.

Pineapple Rice

Grilled Vegetables

Sweet Corn

Spicy Salt-Rubbed Chicken

Grilled Porkchop

Among the highlights of Clambake is a heart-thumping Fireball dance performance

To fully engage guests to the ultimate tropical setting, Tahitian dancers invite them to don their costumes and parade around the beachfront.

Aside from the food at the buffet tables and the steamed/baked seafood on the “Clambake”, guests also get to choose from a wide array of even more seafoods, dampa-style, and they decide how they want their seafood cooked, whether grilled, fried or cooked to a soup.

Marco Polo Plaza Cebu regularly dishes out themed celebrations for its guests, local and foreign alike. This July, Marco Polo Plaza takes us to another culinary journey, this time to beautiful and romantic Spain.

Centuries of Spanish colonization has undeniably influenced our very own Philippine Cuisine. The food of the Philippines reflects on the adaptation of Spanish cuisine. Food historians claim that 80 percent of Philippine dishes are of Spanish origin. Wow! Because the Spaniards formed the elite, dishes adapted by upper-class Filipinos were also Spanish-inspired. Thus many of the party and fiesta dishes and those served for special occasions bear names like relleno, morcon, paella, callos, embutido, caldereta, etc.

For the 3rd time, Marco Polo Plaza Cebu celebrates Sabores de España. Launched on July 16, 2010 and ongoing until July 25, 2010, the activity was marked by the cutting of the Serrano Ham at the Cafe Marco and

Internationally-awarded Filipino concert pianist – Maestro Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz also demonstrated the passion, grace and fire of the best Spanish music.

Accompanied by guitarist Ruben Reyes, Maestro Cruz romanced the audience with a colorful and spellbinding reportoire at the Lobby Lounge.

Finally, the food! I got to enjoy each one! Gema Luisa Pido, Cebu’s foremost authority on Spanish culinary tradition, brought out her treasured family recipes for Paella, Lengua Estofada, Cocidos, Rellenos, Croquettas, Gambas, Sans Rival, Leche Flan, and other Spanish delicacies – all becoming part of Cafe Marco’s award-winning international buffet.

HAPPY SOLES WILL TRAVEL TO BRAZIL

Are you ready to flip-flop your way to a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Brazil?

The answer better be yes as world-famous fashion brand Havaianas kicks off its new Happy Soles campaign for anyone 18 years old and above. This campaign celebrates the fact that Havaianas has been both a witness and a reminder of Filipinos’ happiest moments. A constant companion on everything from beach trips to food trips, Havaianas has trekked up mountains, walked down wedding aisles and danced under the pale moonlight. For many happy soles, Havaianas is a daily reminder of moments spent with friends and filled with laughter – moments that define who we are.

And in an effort to be present in even more unique life experiences, Havaianas kicks off the Happy Soles campaign with a creative competition titled “Happy Soles Will Travel to Brazil.” Answer the question “If anything was possible, what would you do to make the world happy for a day?” as creatively as possible and you could get the chance to win an all-expense-paid vacation for four to the land of sunshine, Brazil.

The winner, along with three friends, will fly to Brazil on an unforgettable, all-expense-paid retreat, complete with travel must-haves from Havaianas, Sony, David and Goliath, and Aloha Board Sports. The group of friends will get to experience the cool climate of cosmopolitan Sao Paulo and the endless summer of Rio de Janeiro in quirky clothes from David and Goliath, and stylish resort wear from Aloha Board Sports. Not only will they stay in chic, boutique hotels and dine at world-class restaurants, the four friends will also visit Oscar Freire Street, home to Brazil’s fanciest boutiques, where they will enjoy a shopping spree at the Havaianas Concept Store. A visit to Daslu, a super luxurious shopping mecca is also on the agenda. In Corcovado Mountain, they will get to see the Brazilian icon, Christ the Redeemer, and record the priceless memory with their Sony CyberShot cameras. They will also experience everything from the football madness at Morumbi and Maracana to the breath-taking tropical landscape of Jardim Botanico, a UNESCO site, and the laid-back beach culture of different world-renowned beaches like Copacabana. The winner will also be able to share these memories with ease, with a new Sony HandyCam camcorder and Sony Vaio laptop, and even a new Sony Walkman mp3 player to bring home the sound of Samba.

Answers can be recorded via the Havaianas roving video booth that will travel to key malls nationwide or uploaded on the campaign website: www.havaianasphilippines.com/happysoles. The top ten happiest and most creative entries will be shortlisted by a board of judges that includes a representative from the Brazilian Embassy, magazine editor Pauline Suaco-Juan, travel blogger Anton Diaz, Capoeira guru Professor Fantasma, and the Managing Director of Havaianas Philippines. The public will then decide who of the ten will be awarded the grand prize through online voting at the campaign website. The remaining nine finalists will also walk away with prizes from Havaianas and new Sony CyberShot cameras.

“Havaianas has always had the privilege of being with Filipinos during their happiest moments – at the beach, in malls, at home, practically everywhere. We wanted to create the happiest possible experience through this unique, luxury vacation to Brazil,” says Anne Gonzalez, Managing Director of Havaianas Philippines.
